WHAT WENT WRONG

(Curated by Andrea Bellini)
What Went Wrong is a subsection of praguebiennial 3 bringing together works conceived specifically for that city by four artists from Los Angeles: Eric Wesley, Mario Ybarra Jr., Pentii Monkonnen and Chris Beas.
These artists are very different from each other, but their work shares an often critical attitude towards reality. These elements of 'social critique' run through their work in a dreamlike way, often tinged with irony, and, in fact, none of them exhibit a precise ideology or dogma. One could say the 'critical' dimension of their work expresses itself fundamentally through an attitude, a mental approach, a way of seeing and moving in the world, rather than through the elements of a precise philosophical and strategic thought.
Another fundamental aspect of What Went Wrong is the atmosphere reached during the realization of the project, which is powered by the dialogue between Ybarra Jr.’s huge wall painting and the uncanny ‘cube’ – that is the Party Headquarters of Beas and Wesley – covered by four big canvases of Pentii Monkonnen.
Both the wall painting and the cube were made especially for the show, continuing the tradition of praguebiennale in the realization of site-specific projects.
