ALIAS / ALIASES

(Curated by Virginia Hackermann)
Hackermann Ines Virginia (HIV) ain’t no artist she’s a virus from outer space. Just like a virus she adapts herself to other lives. Even in citizenship, by some strange hocus-pocus that fact of birth and geography was waved aside, and Virginia Hackermann automatically acquired the nationality of other lives.
For her section HIV uses the concept of identity involving her crew in this project. This group of names – mostly pseudonymous, always provided with false nationality and biographies – started collaborating together after a workshop attended at the S. Martins School of Art in London, the city that is considered the crew’s ‘rendez-vous’.
First of all they try to confuse the viewer fusing each artwork in the others and vice versa. “Who is who?” is the leitmotiv of this section exhibited in a hidden corner of dusty Karlin Hall.
In addition they use hyper-recognizable music stars (Kurt Cobain, Madonna, David Bowie and James Brown) as interfaces, as masks they wear in the passage from their inner world to our (?) real world.
